I recently read an excellent book on the true purpose of a college education and how today’s universities are failing miserably because they focus on developing career skills that lead to a high-paying job, which is the classic utilitarian analysis.
The Code of Conduct exists to educate students in understanding their rights and responsibilities as members of a safe, civil, and ethical academic community. Though formal in language, the manner in which students experience the judicial process involves respect, due process, and education. Ethics involves personal decisions each student makes daily. The course will identify the various ethical/moral theories that affect those decisions. The course will involve current issues and concerns to strengthen a student's own ethical deliberations and how such deliberations may be applied to the student's designated career interests.
